This is the second time I have entered my images into competition. Personally I LOVE and hate this time of year. Entering your best work and having it judged is one of the hardest things to sit through and this year was no different.
You sit in a dark room with a panel of judges at the front of the room who watch your digital print on a monitor. The first second your print title is read, the room is so silent you can hear a pin drop. The heart thumps engulfs the room from one person to the other as the maker listens to the beloved fate of their image. If it goes well, you are on cloud nine. If not - the feeling is not that great.
This year, I experienced a new heart-thumping experience. During the Awards Banquet at the Petroleum Club I noticed my image was nominated, "Best in Class for the Wedding Group Portrait" category & soon after my name was called. It was an incredible feeling I shall not soon forget! Thanks so much Bill Hill for pronouncing my name correctly & Technicare for sponsoring the award!
The next category was, "Best in Class for the Photojournalistic Wedding". Jeff Gibbons (aka my second shooter / right hand man) was nominated and won! I was super excited for him.
I cannot wait to start the new 2011 Wedding Season this year, but up first is the National PPOC competition in Banff.
